Tom Waits much anticipated two disc live album “Glitter & Doom” is officially out today! The record offers a riveting musical document of Waits’ sold out, highly acclaimed Glitter and Doom tour of the US and Europe in the summer of 2008. Disc One is designed to sound like an evening’s performance, even though the 17 tracks are selected from 10 cities, from Paris to Birmingham; Tulsa to Milan; and Atlanta to Dublin. Disc Two is a bonus compendium called TOM TALES, which is a selection of the comic bromides, strange musings, and unusual facts that Tom traditionally shares with his audience during the piano set. Purchase at Amazon by clicking here.
“Every storyteller needs an audience, but Waits is a master fabulist whose diabolic razzle dazzle looms particularly great and grand in front of a crowd, as this 17-track feast of live performances demonstrates.” - Guardian UK
“A double-disc album that documents the crackling energy and force of various performances from Waits’ 2008 tour… if this is as close as you get to hearing Waits live, it’s an illuminating snapshot of an artist whose concerts are increasingly rare and compelling.” - Boston Globe

Awesome live album, I’m glad that I had the opportunity to attend the concert in El Paso. I can’t wait for the LP next month!

a great “tour de force” by Mr. Waits… and glad Tom and Kathleen took the initiative to put this out there for his fans and the world. Thanks!

Really enjoying listening to the new album. Wish I’d been there. Tom Tales on for the third time and just wish it had track markers. Please come back to the UK again soon.

Dear Mr. Waits, I was listening to \When October Goes,\ lyrics by Johnny Mercer, music by Barry Manilow (!), this afternoon—versions by Manilow (not bad!), Nancy Wilson (excellent), and Kevin Mahogany (also excellent)—and it occurred to me that it’s the perfect Waits vehicle. Check it out! I’d love to hear your version of a great song. Thanks for years of great music-making.

I’m sorry, maybe I have a defective copy, but the sound of this live album is unlistenable for me. I was at the Knoxville show, it did not sound anything like this from where I was sitting. I’m not expecting an audiphile experience, but the album sounds like a bad cassette recording being played back from an MP3 file. There’s no dynamic range, the sax sounds like a consumer, there’s no bottom to the double bass. Am I missing something here?

Oops meant to say “sax sounds like a kazoo” above — not sure what I was thinking while typing?

What a great album. Can you not bring out a DVD of the tour? You did not visit the Netherlands and many fans would love to see you perform. The You-Tube clips are very poor !

I agree with rick! Why isn’t this a DVD!!!! Last time I saw Tom I had to drive to the states and see him in Detroit about 30 years ago! Other than BigTime (which I watch repeatedly on VHS) I’m having Waits visual withdrawal.
