Dear Tom,
I met you once when I was 15, ‘ now 30′, a week before xmas in the Santa Rosa Ca. down town mall . I was with my girl “of that time” .I see you walking up to the music store and i’m like,”holy crap,…that’s Tom Waits” she say’s ” if you don’t go meet him you’ll regret it the rest of your life ,she being right I nervously walk up asked to shake your hand and said ,” I just wanted to thank you” I was so nervous I could not say any thing else ,you look at and said, ” NO.. Thank you ” and patted me on the back. One of the best memories in my life .

Opened my ears for a different kind of music and lyrics. Going through one of your albums, is like reading a book made of bittersweet musical pictures. Almost like Silent movie, but not quite. And every time I listen I add something new to it.

In a way Dec. 7th, is everyone’s birthday! If not for Mr. Waits how would we explain a terrible day (God’s Away on Business), the purchase of a Rita Hayworth photo, or explain the morning shine as stated on Ruby’s Arms? There are only a few people in this world that can show you the road and drive you home (analogy of his music). The way that his own songs have evolved over the years, what a skill. Are we ever going to see him in the Rock n Roll HOF?

hope you had a very merry christmas with your family. A good friend made me discover you and your music in my fourties (I’m 50 now). Since then I’m a huge fan. In a way you changed my life. Hope to see you some time live in Germany . Don’t miss to come here next time you visit europe.
