There’s a great article on the All About Jazz site detailing producer Joe Henry’s letter writing campaign which eventually coaxed blues/jazz legend Mose Allison back into the studio after a twelve year hiatus. If you know Mose Allison, you’re going to love his new album “The Way of the World” out March 23 on Anti. If you aren’t familiar with the man, you are in for a serious treat. You may well have heard a cover of one his songs – “Look Here” on the Clash album Sandinista!,” or The Who’s blistering version of “Young Man Blues” on “Live At Leeds.” The Pixies song “Allison” off “Bossanova” is actually about Mose Allison. Having just seen Allison play here in Los Angeles last night, I can personally attest to the fact that the man still has it. His voice and piano playing are in peak form and the new songs are brilliant.
